Japanese Church & Ministry
Bringing the love of Christ to the Japanese people — one community at a time.
How We Got Here
Japan Has Always Been on Our Hearts
Japan isn’t a new destination for our family. We were stationed there twice during our military years, and something stayed with us — a deep love for the people, the culture, and the communities we were part of. We never stopped longing to go back.
In October 2024, I spent extended time in prayer and fasting seeking God. I knew something was stirring. We committed to the Lord that we would go and do wherever He sent us — and by Christmas, Japan became clear and confirmed as the next place.
We battled many storms along the way — including selling our home. But when we committed fully, God opened doors. A job brought us to Hawaiʻi, which turned out to be the perfect preparation and launch point. Our church, Grace Point, already had close friends with the same calling to Japan and a long history of annual mission trips there. It was as if it had all been arranged.
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” — Hebrews 11:1
The Need
Less Than Half a Percent Christian
Japan is 125 million people. Nearly all of them — 48.6% Shinto, 46.4% Buddhist — have never heard the gospel in a meaningful way. The average Japanese congregation has just 12 members. These are small, faithful churches doing extraordinary work in one of the world’s most spiritually unreached nations.

2017
Grace Point has been sending mission teams to Tokyo every year since 2017
What We’ll Be Doing
Serving in Tokyo
Sent by Grace Point Church, we’ll spend nearly two weeks serving alongside local churches and ministries in Tokyo — building relationships, supporting outreach, and serving in whatever ways we’re needed.
Church Partnership
Bread of Life Church
Located near Waseda University in Tokyo, Bread of Life Church has grown to over 80 weekly attendees. We’ll focus on evangelism, Bible studies, relationship building, and supporting their campus ministry alongside local believers.
Justice Ministry
ZOE Japan
ZOE Japan works at the intersection of gospel and justice — fighting human trafficking through prevention education, a victim support hotline, and outreach to vulnerable youth. We’ll support their work and participate in J.O.Y. Club (Jesus, Others, You) English ministry at Evergreen Chapel.
Community Outreach
Streets & Neighborhoods
Beyond the church walls, we’ll be in the streets — prayer walking, serving the homeless, and supporting outreach efforts with Praise Church and Okubo Baptist. Ministry in Japan often starts with simply showing up and serving with no agenda other than love.
A Divine Intersection
When Uganda and Japan Sat at the Same Table
Our former pastor — someone we’ve served alongside for years — started a ministry in Japan called Philia Cafe. Run by Guy and Tamae Bishop, it’s a cafe and craft gallery in Tokyo that raises local awareness and support for the Uganda Orphan Care Center (UOCC). A Japanese community, moved by the plight of African orphans. A pastor’s calling, carried across the world.
We already supported UOCC in Uganda. We already felt called to Japan. These felt like separate threads — until the moment we sat down at Philia Cafe with Guy, Tamae, and Daniel, the director of UOCC, who happened to be traveling from Africa at the same time Brian and Claire were in Japan.
Nobody planned it. God arranged it. In that room, our Uganda mission and our Japan calling were suddenly the same story. It was one of those moments where you realize you’re not connecting the dots — He already connected them.

How You Can Support This Mission
Pray With Us
We’re asking people to commit to praying for us leading up to and through this trip. Please pray for:
Safe travel and good health for our whole team throughout the trip.
Open hearts in Japan — that seeds planted through church outreach, English ministry, and everyday relationships would take root.
God to use us with a strong focus on the Great Commission — that our presence there would genuinely advance His kingdom.
ZOE Japan’s team and the pastors and believers at Bread of Life Church, Praise Church, and Okubo Baptist — that God would strengthen and multiply their work.
Give Financially
God has blessed our family with the ability to self-fund, but He has specifically convicted us to humbly ask for full outside support for this trip. Any giving beyond our total need will go directly toward future mission trips and ministries in Japan through Grace Point Church.
